Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Lecloux is a Belgian-French photographer, writer and publisher born in 1972. A self-taught artist, he graduated from the \u00c9cole nationale sup\u00e9rieure de la photographie in Arles in 2016 and obtained a degree in Nepali language from INALCO in 2021.<\/p>\n
His photographs have been distributed by Agence VU\u2019 since 2003. His archive entered the Nic\u00e9phore Ni\u00e9pce Museum in Chalon-sur-Sa\u00f4ne in 2024.<\/p>\n
His photographic writing finds its raison d\u2019\u00eatre in the slow pace of his relationship with others and the slow pace of the photographic gesture that arises from this relationship. Having long drawn his visual vocabulary from the reality of Nepal and the work of Nicolas Bouvier, his photography has recently narrowed its focus to the banality of his immediate environment.<\/p>\n
Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Lecloux is the author of some ten books of texts and photographs, including Au d\u00e9sert. Migrations N\u00e9pal-Qatar<\/em> (2022), Territoires du cin\u00e9matographe<\/em> (2022), N\u00e9pal. Epiphanies of the Everyday<\/em> (2017), and L\u2019Usure du monde<\/em>, A Tribute to Nicolas Bouvier (2008), all published by Le Bec en l\u2019air. He also published a collection of sonnets entitled La grande Route par tous les temps<\/em> with Arnaud Bizalion in 2017, updated and expanded in 2026. He is the author of several texts on photography, notably for Clo\u00e9 Harent (forthcoming, 2027), Marin Driguez (exhibition text, 2025), Albert Londres et la photographie<\/em> (afterword, Le Bec en l\u2019air, 2023), Denis Brihat in Indes 1955<\/em> (portfolio and exhibition, 2021) and Bonne ann\u00e9e<\/em> (afterword, Le Bec en l\u2019air, 2017). He runs a blog featuring critical and analytical essays, interviews and translations of writings on photography.<\/p>\n He also co-directed a research and creation thesis with Natacha Cyrulnik at the \u00c9cole d\u2019Arles (2021) and co-directed, with sociologist Val\u00e9rie Cuzol, the film Quel C\u00f4t\u00e9 de l\u2019absence\u00a0?<\/em> (2018).<\/p>\n For Le Bec en l\u2019air, he has contributed to the publication of several books, including Jean-Pierre Sudre\u2019s La Vie silencieuse de l\u2019Industrie<\/em> (2025), +Photographie. Les Acquisitions des institutions publiques<\/em> (7 vols., since 2020), Les Oignons de Denis Brihat<\/em> (2023), Ergy Landau<\/em> (2022), Jerusalem to the Last Path<\/em> by David Sauveur (2021), and L\u2019Oiseau noir perch\u00e9 \u00e0 droite dans ma t\u00eate<\/em> by Jean-Christian Bourcart (2019).<\/p>\n Recipient of an Allocation d\u2019installation d\u2019atelier in 2025 and of an Aide individuelle \u00e0 la cr\u00e9ation in 2024 for his research on photography in the Anthropocene, both awarded by the Drac Hauts-de-France, as well of two ADAGP Research grants for his projects \u2018L\u2019explication, la paix, l\u2019oubli\u2019 in 2025 and \u2018Entrer en mati\u00e8re\u2019 in 2024, Fr\u00e9d\u00e9ric Lecloux was also the first guest of the residence \u2018Les Nouvelles oubli\u00e9es\u2019 proposed by rn7 in 2019, a recipient of the Leverhulme Trust Artist in Residence Grant (United Kingdom) in 2016 and of the CNAP\u2019s Documentary photography grant in 2015.<\/p>\n Having led numerous courses and workshops focusing on the uses of photography \u2013 including in Nepal, at the Rencontres d\u2019Arles and in schools (2010\u20132020) \u2013 and having subsequently created and run a writing workshop for photographers with VU\u2019 \u00c9ducation (2018\u20132026), he now works independently to mentor photographers in the process of turning professionals, and is purusing his writing workshop at the Rencontres d\u2019Arles (2026) and at the Adagp (2027).<\/p>\n A photograph<\/a>.<\/p>\n <\/i><\/a> Curriculum (last updated in October 2022)Statement<\/span><\/h4>\n
